When most people think of chandeliers, they are thinking about those enormous crystal chandeliers that you see if stately homes and grand hallways in period dramas such as pride and prejudice. Sure, this is a fantastic application for chandeliers, but did you know that there are lots of modern chandelier lighting features out there, some of which when you see them you perhaps wouldn’t even describe as a chandelier at all.
The jury is out on what a chandelier is these days, but the usual definition is something like “a branched lighting fixture that hangs from the ceiling”. In this way, many modern chandeliers are simply complex lighting features with branching off elements, or at least several lights. This leads to some truly weird and wonderful designs and is one of the reasons why I am always saying that you can always find a chandelier for any room – there are just so many great designs.
When looking for this kind of light, many people will still want something fairly traditional. While I am all for getting something truly different and remarkable, there is something to be said about a light like a modern crystal chandelier, which is simply a new take on an old design. There is a bit of a blandness in modern minimalist design, and if you can add some great modern chandelier lighting to your room you not only can brighten it up with the illumination but also by adding a well designed centerpiece to your room.
It is actually very hard for me to write a guide on how to choose modern chandeliers, because it is all down to person taste. You certainly need to follow the tips that we outline in our chandelier guide, no matter whether you are by modern crystal chandeliers, or antique ones. Here’s the point I’m trying to get across; as long as you get the basics of preparing the area to put your light, setting your budget and ensuring you don’t get one so big that nobody will be able to walk underneath it, which chandelier you go for is down to your personal taste and matching something with the room that you are putting it in. If you get these two elements right you will be able to pick a modern chandelier that will give you many years of good service and look great and make you feel good about your decision to buy it every time that you look at it.
