Choosing a Chandelier Light

in Choosing Chandeliers, Learn About Chandeliers

Are you ready to give your house an updated look? A new chandelier light can do that! Here are some things to consider before you go out and buy one:

Location: a chandelier light needs a large area to reside. Hanging it in a low-lying area will result in aggravation when everyone hits their head on it. Good choices are above your dining room or kitchen table, in a tall entry way or foyer, or any room that has cathedral ceilings.

Size: how large of a light you choose will depend on the size area you are shopping for. You don’t want one larger than your table is if that is where you are putting it. You also don’t want one so small on a large foyer area that it looks drowned out by the space around it.

Amount of light: there is such a thing as too much light in an area. There can also be not enough. Think about your color scheme and whether it calls for more light to brighten a room or less light to darken the room. Generally the more bulbs a chandelier has, the more light it will give off.

Style: this will completely depend on your personal taste. Do you prefer traditional styles, such as crystal and brass chandeliers? Do you prefer a more rustic look, like a brushed copper or tin style? Maybe you prefer the look of stained glass or the classic look of wrought iron? You decide which works for your situation and how it will change the feel of the room you are putting it in.

Cost: this is a real concern for many people. We all want our homes to say something about our tastes, personalities, etc., but for most of us money IS an object. The cost for a chandelier lighting varies greatly and depends on quality, size, bulbs, and location purchased. Expect to pay around $50 or so for a lower-end one at a local hardware store, or as much as several hundred dollars for a higher-end model at a specialty lighting shop. One option to find a bargain on a chandelier light is to look in the clearance section of your local hardware store. Inventory changes constantly, so it is pretty common to see lighting marked down greatly.

No matter what you choose, adding a new chandelier light can add beauty and value to your home!
